Yellow & Pink Tablescape 2018
I used to be scared of the color yellow. Now, I find myself almost always gravitating to it when looking for flowers, linens or other decor items. It’s a no-brainer for summer parties, but I also love using it for early-fall entertaining. While I was procrastinating writing this post and spending way too much money at the Nordstrom sale, it became apparent that “mustard yellow” is going to be seen a lot this fall in fashion. Thankfully, I’ve let my hair return to its natural dark brown color (I left the blonde highlights in Dallas when I moved), so I can wear mustard yellow clothes... well at least I think I can.Anyway, when Sara Fried from Fete Nashville asked to collaborate on styling a summer tablescape that could be used for a wide-range of events, we knew right away that the main color-story would be yellow.
Sara and I both love to use more than just flowers, so we decided to bring in some citrus, but not just lemons (been there, done that). We started with the linen, which was rented from La Tavola, and it also comes in a variety of color options if yellow isn’t your jam. This linen also isn't too yellow, which can be off-putting, but added just the right amount of the color to the table. The china, glass and silverware are also all rentable from Please Be Seated, as are the bamboo chairs, which are my go-to rentable chair for summer events. If you live in the south right now and aren’t using bamboo pieces in your tablescapes, then you aren’t getting out much. It is everywhere right now!
The menu cards, escort cards and place cards were all designed by the uber-talented gals at Tenn Hens Design and were clearly inspired by the citrus theme. Each menu card looks hand-painted even though they’re printed, and they tie-in the various citrus fruits used on the table as well as the cake.
Speaking of cake, y’all know I love cake at every event, no matter what size the party is. This lemon cake is light enough for summer suppers and the hand-painted fruits keep it looking fresh and fun. Way to go Copper Whisk Cakes!
As for the flowers, we didn’t want to get too matchy-matchy, as they could get lost on the table. FLWR Shop made this gorgeous hot-pink centerpiece that’s a mix of flowers in various shades of pink and pops of orange cumquats. We tied the pink in by serving pink lemonade in our vintage glasses (rented).
The finishing touch is our party favor which we included at each place setting. These yellow dishes from Draper James inscribed with “smile y’all,” were the perfect piece of decor that guests could also take home with them after the event. Talk about a perfect bridemaids’ luncheon or baby shower... I’m just sayin.
